What is PEO?
Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation (PEO) coating is an eco-friendly coating method that uses alkaline electrolytes for electrochemical surface treatment. High voltage and high current are applied to the electrolyte to form a ceramic layer on the surface of non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, magnesium, and titanium.
Key characteristics
KTS produce hard, dense and ceramic coatings for light alloys that can be carefully tailored to provide a combination of different characteristics.
Extreme hardness
PEO delivers up to 2000HV of hardness.
The dense, ultra-hard ceramic layer is extremely peel-resistant and strongly protects it from wear environments. In particular, unlike conventional bulk ceramic products, the ceramic layer formed on aluminum is resistant to impact.
Plasma resistance
Corrosion and particle problems occur due to extreme conditions such as high-energy reactive plasma environments and high-temperature environments. PEO coating provides high reliability and high yield of the coating with significantly higher plasma resistance compared to the existing anodizing and AlF coatings
Electrical insulation
PEO coating film has the strong insulation properties of the ceramic, and the porous PEO coating serves as a good base for the secondary insulation coating, providing even stronger insulation. The insulation coating formed on the conductive light metal enables the fabrication of a wide range of products
Heat resistance
PEO coating provides a very strong bonding between the material and the ceramic coating layer in an amorphous form in the process of rejoining the plasmaized base material on the metal surface. The ceramic layer significantly reduces the peeling phenomenon caused by thermal shock and imparts excellent heat resistance of the ceramic to the material surface
Wear resistance
Through a combination of high hardness, strong adhesion and compliance, PEO delivers a complete wear resistant solution for components.
Corrosion resistance
The ceramic layers of 10-100 um formed on the metal surface give the material strong corrosion resistance. It effectively protects the material by forming a dense ceramic layer regardless of the shape of the product.
